Universal Curettes • Langer Curettes
Universal Curettes have two parallel
cutting edges that meet at a rounded
toe. The back surface is rounded
giving a semi-circular cross section.
Universal Due to this rounded back surface,
Curettes curettes are ideal for the removal of
subgingival debris.

Langer Curettes
The Langer Curette design combines the benefits of a universal curette blade with two cutting
edges and the shank designs of area specific curettes. The Langer Curettes were originally
designed to be used in a set of three (1/2, 3/4, 5/6), to adapt to most tooth surfaces, and to be
suitable for scaling as well as periodontal surgery.

Best in Practice Fact
The Langer curette takes a “best of both worlds” approach to instrument design. The curette pairs a universal blade
— featuring two parallel edges and a 90-degree angle between the terminal shank and blade face — with the shank
design of area-specific Gracey curettes. The result is an instrument that adapts well and is efficient.
